NIVES ELVIRA PARUTTA HOOD, 84, of Great Mills, MD passed on April 20, 2026.
Nives, was born in Invisinado, Yugoslavia on March 17, 1942, to the late Giovanni Parutta and Giovanna Oclen Parutta. She was preceded in death by her late brother Alberto Parutta and late sister Maria Xhanjanka.
In 1960 she met her future husband Robert “Bobby” Hood in Pordenone, Italy. They married on December 3, 1960. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage before his passing in 2022. Nives traveled with her husband to Portugal, Turkey, Italy for a second time, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. In the end, they settled down in Great Mills, MD where they lived for the past 39 years. Nives enjoyed watching the Redskins play, gardening, sewing and she was famous for her spaghetti and homemade sauce. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.
She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Hood of Avenue, MD and her son Patrick (Kimberli) Hood of Cobb Island, MD. She has five grandchildren Destiny Alvey, Ryan Alvey, Seth Hood, Diego Martinez, and Ayriauna Hood. She has four great-grandchildren.
On May 9, 2026 the family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00-11:00 am with the memorial service beginning at 11:00 am at Encounter Christian Center, 30080 Henry Lane, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A celebration of life will be at Encounter Christian Center following the service. There will be food and refreshments.
