NORTH BEACH, Md. — One of North Beach’s most popular events is coming back this June, and is looking for participants.
The End Hunger Dragon Boat Festival will return this year on Saturday, June 13. The Festival supports the mission of the Community Harvest Network: ending hunger throughout Southern Maryland, one family at a time.
This exciting festival features races by local dragonboat teams right on the Chesapeake Bay. Anyone can create a team for their business, organization, gym, or group of friends. Teams must have a minimum of 15 rowing members and one drummer. Teams are responsible for fundraising a minimum of $1,500 to participate. Interested participants can also join an already existing team, or sign up as an individual paddler and organizers will place you on a team. Individual paddlers are responsible for fundraising a minimum of $100 to participate and all participants must be 16 years or older by June 13.
The event takes place on Bay Avenue in North Beach, where visitors will find Dragon Boat Team tents, local food and craft vendors, entertainment for kids, and more. To be a food or craft vendor and help make the event special, you can register online here. Visitors can cheer on their favorite team (or teams) all day long at the festival.
And, if you want to go a step further, but aren’t ready to be in the race, organizers have sponsorship opportunities available for the local community to show their support. Information about sponsorships can be found online here.
Last year’s race brought dozens of vendors and visitors from all over Maryland, who gathered to watch American Chestnut Land Trust take the grand prize. Stay up to date on the festival on Facebook and Instagram, or reach out to dragonboat@endhungercalvert.org for questions about the “event of the summer.”
