Not Quite Cinderella: Mechanicsville Woman Charged After Glass Pipe Found In Slipper During Warrant Arrest

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A Mechanicsville woman who had failed to appear in two separate court cases was charged again after deputies say a suspected cocaine pipe was found stuffed inside one of her slippers during a warrant arrest.

Melissa Irene Richards, 31, of Mechanicsville, was charged with CDS possession-not cannabis and CDS possession of paraphernalia following the June 9, 2026, incident.

A St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded around 8:13 p.m. to the area of 30320 Three Notch Road for a subject with an active warrant.

Court records show Richards had failed to appear in two separate St. Mary’s County District Court cases. One involved CDS possession and paraphernalia charges from Feb. 23, 2026, and the other involved a theft under $100 charge from Dec. 23, 2025.

Bench warrants were issued after she failed to appear for court hearings May 18 and June 1, according to court records.

Richards was arrested on the warrants. During a search incident to arrest, deputies allegedly found a glass smoking device stuffed into one of her slippers.

The glass smoking device contained a white powder substance, according to charging documents. Based on training and experience, the deputy identified the substance as suspected cocaine.

Richards was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.

Court records show Richards posted a $1,000 unsecured personal bond on June 10 in the new case.

A trial in the new CDS case is set for July 14 in St. Mary’s County District Court.
