Friends,
Yesterday I made a call to Representative Steny Hoyer and congratulated him on his victory in our contest for the US House of Representatives from Marylandโs 5th Congressional District.ย The Congressman was gracious in acceptance of the call.ย It was a hard fought race but the citizens have spoken, and I accept and respect that decision.
I am a fan of longstanding political traditions, and a respectful call of concession and well wishes is an important part of that tradition in my opinion.ย Now we begin the process to more fully analyze the results and we move on to the most important business of this state and nation.
Representative Hoyer has won yet another term in office and has made promises to the citizens of the 5th District that we will hold him to.ย I will be certain to help him and cooperate whenever possible to further the best interests of our district, state and nation.ย Representative Hoyer can expect to hear from me, and hopefully you too, whenever he votes in opposition to those same best interests.
Our campaign this past year has been principled and energized with a whirlwind of activity.ย We began assembling our very fine all-volunteer team in late November of 2011, publically announced our campaign in December, opened our headquarters in January andย we were off and running.ย We handily won the 3-way Republican primary in early April and worked a strong outreach to all citizens in the 5th District over the remainder of the spring and summer and right up to Election Day here in the fall.
Our all-volunteer force effectively reached out to spread our message.ย Volunteers and supporters from Berwyn Heights to Ridge, from Indian Head to Edgewater, and from Solomons Island to Crofton worked tirelessly.ย They helped me take our messages to the neighborhoods, grocery stores, metro stations and bus stops, churches, community centers and everywhere in between.ย We also attended and walked in a host of community and holiday parades, fairs and events.
I am especially thankful for my immediate and senior campaign staff that advised and guided the campaign through some very large challenges and decisions.ย I am grateful for the leaders who took on roles as my County Coordinators and community volunteers.ย Thanks, as well, goes out to the supporters who manned the headquarters and made countless phone calls and stuffed thousands of envelopes as well as those who knocked on over 6,000 doors across the district.ย Many signs were both erected and waved to passing motorists during the course of the campaign.ย This is really hard work that was completed without complaint.
The numerous financial contributors and those who hosted and organized coffees, fundraising events and meet-and-greet events deserve special thanks f
