One Trip Too Many? Alleged $300 Weis Shoplifting Leads To Four Criminal Cases

LUSBY, Md. — A Lusby man is facing four separate criminal cases after Calvert County Sheriff’s Office investigators alleged he shoplifted merchandise from the Weis Markets store in Lusby on multiple occasions over several weeks, resulting in theft and theft scheme charges involving more than $500 in merchandise, according to court documents.

Mason Andrew Karmenzind, 21, of Lusby, was charged in the District Court for Calvert County through four separate Statements of Charges (SOC) applications.

The cases allege the thefts occurred between June 26 and July 19, with investigators later seeking an additional theft scheme charge after concluding the incidents were part of an ongoing pattern.

According to charging documents, a deputy responded to Weis Markets at 210 Village Center Drive in Lusby on July 19 for a reported shoplifting.

Store employees told investigators Karmenzind purchased $127.93 worth of merchandise but allegedly concealed and removed an additional $309.28 in unpaid merchandise by passing all points of sale and walking to his vehicle.

Court documents state employees confronted Karmenzind outside the store, where he allegedly admitted attempting the theft and told staff he had made a mistake.

According to court documents, investigators reported the unpaid merchandise included groceries, meat, frozen foods, bakery items and general merchandise. Store employees provided deputies with an itemized receipt documenting the allegedly stolen items.

According to court documents, management also requested that Karmenzind be indefinitely trespassed from all three Weis Markets locations in Solomons, Lusby and Prince Frederick.

The July 19 incident resulted in a charge of theft of property valued between $100 and $1,500.

While investigating the July 19 incident, a Weis Markets employee reviewed surveillance footage and advised deputies she believed the same individual had committed several earlier thefts at the Lusby store.

According to investigators, surveillance footage allegedly showed Karmenzind entering the store on June 26 at approximately 5:55 p.m. and leaving about 21 minutes later without paying for three containers of Tidy Cats Glade litter valued at $22.23.

A second investigation alleged Karmenzind returned on July 9, entering the store at approximately 4:24 p.m. before leaving about 12 minutes later without paying for merchandise valued at $10.49.

Investigators also reviewed surveillance footage from July 5, alleging Karmenzind entered the store at approximately 6:40 p.m. and left about five minutes later after taking three bags of dog food valued at $179.64 without paying.

According to court documents, based on the repeated incidents, deputies sought an additional theft scheme charge.

According to the charging documents, investigators alleged Karmenzind committed at least four separate thefts from the same Weis Markets location between June 26 and July 19, 2026, forming a continuing course of conduct.

Because each case was initiated through a Statement of Charges application, Karmenzind was issued summonses rather than arrested. Court records show he is scheduled for preliminary inquiry hearings on Sept. 14 and Sept. 21, 2026, in Calvert County District Court.
