DAMERON, Md. — Carroll’s Equipment opened for business in the dark depths of the Great Depression. The family-owned business stayed in the same location at the corner of Trapp Road and Route 235 for almost 90 years.
In that time, it grew from an auto service center to a business specializing in agriculture, lawn, and garden, compact industrial equipment, marine engines, parts, sales, and service.
Forced to Shut Doors
Unfortunately, after decades as a John Deere dealer, they were forced to temporarily close the doors of this family business in 2020.
Back In Business
But Rick’s daughter, Andrea Carroll, wasn’t going to let her family legacy go. She reopened the business under the name Carroll’s Service Center a short time later.
Andrea started working at the family business as a kid and joined the company full time when she finished college. At first, the re-opened Carroll’s concentrated mainly on servicing equipment but as time went on, they’ve been able to add new lines of equipment.
Currently, they are a STIHL dealer and have recently added Gravely’s line of zero-turn mowers. “The residential models are built with some of the same high-quality features as the commercial models. Easy to learn and operate, zero-turn mowers help you achieve shorter mowing times, use less fuel, and cover more ground over the course of the machine’s lifetime.”
Andrea hopes to carry Yanmar tractors and UTVs soon.
She says Carroll’s can service all brands of equipment, including John Deere.
“Now, we work on all brands of equipment. We do tubes, tires, hydraulic lines, and more. We’re a one-stop shop. Along with my dedicated and hardworking staff, I am excited to grow and continue to support the tri-county area for all their equipment needs.”
Right now, her top goal is to let Southern Maryland know that Carroll’s is here to stay. “We’re still trying to get the word out that we’re open again.”
This fourth-generation business owner says Carroll’s strives to offer superior customer service. “We care about our customers. Our number one goal is to make them happy. That’s always been our motto. You don’t get that in a big box store. We want to find the right equipment to meet your needs.”
