LA PLATA, Md. — Port Tobacco Players is inviting Southern Maryland theater lovers to laugh, sing and celebrate another exciting season packed with comedies, musicals and family-friendly productions this summer.

Leading the lineup is the current production of “Lend Me a Soprano,” running through May 31, 2026. The fast-paced comedy brings audiences backstage to the Cleveland Grand Opera Company in 1934, where chaos unfolds as a world-famous soprano arrives late, tempers flare and mistaken identities take center stage.
Performances are scheduled Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $17 for adults and $15 for seniors, students and military members with ID.

The excitement continues this summer with “Legally Blonde: The Musical,” opening July 10 and running through Aug. 2, 2026. Based on the hit movie, the energetic musical follows Elle Woods as she takes on Harvard Law School while proving she is far more than people expect. Organizers describe the production as “action-packed” with memorable songs, dynamic dance numbers and plenty of laughs.
Families can also enjoy Encore Kids’ production of “Honk! JR.” on June 6 and 7. The comedic family musical will feature young local performers in a heartwarming adaptation of the beloved story.
Port Tobacco Players also announced its upcoming 78th season, featuring a mix of classic plays, holiday productions and crowd-pleasing musicals, including:
- “Steel Magnolias” — Sept. 18 to Oct. 4, 2026
- “Leaves in the Wind” — Oct. 16 to 18, 2026
- “The Great Christmas Cookie Bake-Off” — Nov. 13 to Dec. 13, 2026
- “All Shook Up” — Jan. 29 to Feb. 21, 2027
- “The Cottage” — April 30 to May 16, 2027
- “Frozen” — July 9 to Aug. 8, 2027

The theater is also encouraging community involvement beyond the stage. Auditions for “Steel Magnolias” are scheduled throughout May, and organizers are seeking volunteer house managers for the upcoming season. Volunteers assist with patron seating and intermission coordination while enjoying complimentary admission to performances.
Port Tobacco Players, now celebrating more than seven decades of community theater, continues to offer opportunities for residents of all ages to participate in local performing arts both onstage and behind the scenes.
