MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – In the early hours of March 22, 2024, around 1:20 a.m., fire and rescue personnel were called to the scene of a vehicle fire in the 36000 block of Joan Drive. The alert came from a 911 caller who reported hearing an explosion outside her residence.

Upon arrival, the crews encountered a camper fully ablaze, with the fire spreading to a nearby shed and the surrounding woods. A total of 20 firefighters were on the scene, managing to control and extinguish the fire within a 20-minute timeframe. No injuries have been reported.

The camper, situated in the owner’s yard, is considered the area of origin for the fire. An estimated loss of $35,000 is attributed to the structure, and an additional $15,000 loss is attributed to the contents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
