INDIAN HEAD, Md. — A sailboat overturned Tuesday afternoon on the Potomac River near Chapmans Point, prompting a multi-agency rescue response. No injuries were reported.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 2:13 p.m. on April 15, 2025, after multiple 911 calls reported a sailboat on its side about 40 feet from shore. Fire Boat 8 launched but was unable to reach the vessel due to high winds and strong currents, leading to the deployment of two dive team swimmers.
Both occupants reached shore and were later transported to a command post for evaluation. Fire Boat 4 maintained a safety perimeter, and additional units assisted with evacuation.
The Department of Natural Resources Police is investigating the incident. No fuel leaks were reported. Seventeen Fire/EMS personnel responded.
