Not much is better in Maryland than oysters. So, join folks at St. Clement’s Island Museum on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4 and 5, to celebrate Maryland’s birthplace and the Blessing of the Fleet that will sail our waters during oyster season.
Activities will begin at noon on Saturday and end at 10 p.m. On Sunday, activities will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For a complete list of activities click.
The Blessing of the Fleet is sponsored by the 7th District Optimist Club and was started 41 years ago with a suggestion Father John J. Madigan, pastor of Holy Angels Church in Avenue, suggested to Optimist President James Banagan. In its second year, the event, promoted by the Maryland Watermen’s Association and the Harry Lundenberg School of Seamanship, was attended by more than 5,000 people.
