MARBURY, Md. — A green parrot found at Gale-Bailey Elementary School during summer session is still waiting to be reunited with its owner at the Charles County Animal Care Center.

The bird’s exact identification has not been confirmed, but it appears to be an Amazon-type parrot.

The Animal Care Center posted about the found bird on July 8, 2026, describing the animal as a “feathered free spirit” found hanging around one of the county’s schools.

The BayNet confirmed on the afternoon of July 9 that the bird remained at the facility and had not yet been claimed.

Staff joked the bird may have been trying to enroll, but it is now being cared for at the shelter while officials work to find its owner.

The bird is currently on a stray hold until July 11. If an owner does not come forward, the parrot is expected to become available for adoption. The shelter has already received several inquiries.

Anyone missing a green parrot or similar pet bird is asked to contact the Charles County Animal Care Center at 301-932-1713 so staff can confirm ownership and help return the animal home.

The facility is located at 6707 Animal Shelter Road in Hughesville and handles lost, found and adoptable animals in Charles County.
