Leonardtown, MD— On April 12, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Matthew Pleisse responded to the Leonardtown Dash- In at Point Lookoutย Road in Leonardtown for the reported subject passed out in a vehicle near the gas pumps.ย
Pleisse made contact with the defendant who was identified as Gary M. Quade, 35, of Leonardtown. Quade advised, “that he had not passed out, but had his head looking downwardย as he played scratch-off lottery tickets,” according to charging documents.ย
Quade advised he had been sitting there for approximatelyย 30 minutes.ย As Pleisse spoke with Quade, he noticed his speech was slow and slurred and his eyes were glassy.ย
Pleisse asked Quade to submit to a standardized field sobrietyย test; Quade consented to take the test.ย
Quade was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. According to charging documents, “a search of Quade’s vehicleย resulted in finding of 12 green rectangular Alprazolam 2mg Xanax pills in the front passenger seat.”
Quade was read his Mirandaย Rights. Quade then advised “the pills were Xanax, and he took 5 of the pills approximately 2 or 3 hours ago,” according to charging documents.ย
Quade was charged with CDS possession, not marijuana, attempting to drive a vehicle while impairedย by drugs, and attempting to drive a vehicleย while impaired by a controlled dangerous substance.ย
Quade has a scheduled hearing June 28 in District Court. Quade faces a maximum jail sentence of four years and or a maximum fine of $25,000.
