CALIFORNIA, Md. — Don’t let the name fool you. Tinkerbell may share a name with a famous fairy, but shelter staff say this 3-year-old Beagle-Rottweiler mix is more than pixie dust.

Currently available for adoption through the St. Mary’s County Animal Adoption & Resource Center, Tinkerbell has quickly earned a reputation for her larger-than-life personality, investigative nose and affectionate side once she gets to know someone.

According to a recent post from Friends of St. Mary’s County Animal Shelter, visitors should expect a careful evaluation when meeting Tinkerbell for the first time.

“When you first approach her kennel, she will give you a thorough ocular pat-down,” the shelter wrote. “She’s not shy; she’s just running your background check.”

Once a visitor passes what shelter volunteers jokingly call her “strict vibe check,” Tinkerbell transforms into a wiggly, affectionate companion eager for attention and treats.

A unique mix of Beagle and Rottweiler, Tinkerbell combines the floppy-eared curiosity of a scent hound with the confident presence of a dog who believes she is in charge. Shelter staff describe her as highly treat-motivated and always ready for her next adventure.

Outside, Tinkerbell’s Beagle instincts take over immediately.

“The moment she steps outside, her Beagle nose hits the pavement and she immediately begins forensic analysis of the entire planet,” the shelter said. “You are no longer the dog walker; you are merely Tinkerbell’s chauffeur on her daily expedition.”

Volunteers describe her personality as equal parts cuddle bug and neighborhood supervisor, making her a good match for someone looking for both a walking companion and a devoted friend.

At 3 years old, Tinkerbell has plenty of energy for exploring but also enjoys settling down for what shelter staff call her “mandatory snuggle sessions.”

For families or individuals seeking a loyal companion with plenty of character, Tinkerbell may be the perfect fit.

Those interested in meeting Tinkerbell can visit the St. Mary’s County Animal Adoption & Resource Center and see whether they pass her famously thorough background check.
