A photograph of a Maryland blue crab has garnered a coveted honor for the cameraman who caught the image of the iconic crustacean.
Calvert County Ducks Unlimited has selected local photographer/artist Terry Quinn as their artist of the year.
The Solomons resident, who specializes in subjects and objects of a nautical nature credits local Ducks Unlimited board member Charlie Reese with proposing the idea of selecting Quinn as the organizationโs artist of the year. Reese noticed the picture on canvas hanging in a local cafรฉ he (Reese) frequents.
โI was surprised to learn one of my crab pieces had been chosen,โ said Quinn. While the art appreciated by a group called Ducks Unlimited might conjure up limited renderings like wooden decoys and paintings of waterfowl, Quinn indicated that perception is erroneous.
โI did not realize that their mission is to conserve, restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North American waterfowl,โ said Quinn. โThese habitats also benefit other wildlife and people. I discovered over 900 species of wildlife benefit from what this organization doesโvery cool stuff. Our waterways have and will continue to be one of the most enjoyable pieces of my life.โ
Quinn will be honored at the Calvert County Ducks Unlimited annual dinner in early November. He declared, โI am humbled to have my name forever linked to such an honorable group of people.โ
