At 6:10 p.m. June 28, Trooper Jenkins was on routine patrol traveling north on Post Office Road when a white Ford Thunderbird made a left turn from October Place onto Post Office Road directly in front of him.
A computer check through MILES/NCIC revealed the vehicle was stolen from Prince Georgeโs County. The driver of the vehicle backed onto Light Arms Place and pulled into a parking space directly in front of Tpr. Jenkins. The trooper approached the vehicle without his emergency equipment activated, when the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the vehicle lost control skidding sideways and striking a crosswalk sign. Then vehicle then continued in a skid until it came to rest striking a bicycle in from of a residence on Barrington Drive, just west of Post Office road.
There were numerous small children and adults that almost got struck by the vehicle, police report.
The driver was identified as Terry Avein Johnson, 22 of Upper Marlboro. Johnson did not have a driverโs license and had an outstanding Bench Warrant for failure to appear in Prince Georgeโs County, for theft less than $500.
Johnson was placed under arrest and transported to the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack for initial processing. He was then transported to the Charles County Detention Center to be seen by the District Court Commissioner.ย He received numerous traffic citations for fleeing and eluding; he was also charged with motor vehicle theft.
