Nanjemoy resident, developer and political activist Cornell Posey, founder of the โBucket TEA Partyโ, apologized to Commissioners about comments he made at the last public forum.ย During his apology, he blasted Commissioners for moving the public forum to September 20th instead of the last Wednesday of the month and fired a shot at the media.
ย
โFirst of all, I’d like to apologize to Mr. Reuben Collins and to Debra Davis,โ Posey said.ย โLast time I was here, there were some words that I said that I didn’t really mean.ย You get caught up in the cause.ย I’m just trying to fight for my people.ย I said some things, I didn’t write it in the paper.ย They wrote it in the paper.ย I apologize for my actions.โ
ย
Posey was speaking about remarks he made during the July 27, 2011 public forum where he declared the decision by the Commissioners to shoot down a low income housing development project in Nanjemoy โdiscriminationโ and โa race thingโ.
ย
โI’d like to say I’m kind of disappointed in the government,โ Posey continued.ย โWhen I have a problem, I call.ย If I have a problem with Reuben, instead of coming on TV or putting it in the paper, I like to call people and let them know.ย I called Bobby and set up a meeting with Bobby.ย It blew up in the paper; it could’ve blown up on the TV.โ
ย
Posey has called on the media several times to get the word out about the Bucket TEA Party.ย Heโs had WTTG, WUSA and DC radio stations come out to do stories on living conditions.
ย
โI want to get people in Nanjemoy off this bucket,โ Posey continued.ย โI talked to the Governor last week.ย We’re here to fight for a cause.ย My brothers and sisters on the right and environmental people, they always criticize the things we’re trying to do but they’re not doing anything.ย We’re out here doing it, we know our community.ย I talked to the Governor, we had a good conversation.ย
