MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — On the evening of Feb. 22, President Joseph Biden announced that the American Flag should be set at half-staff to remember the 500,000 lives lost to COVID-19.

As of Feb. 22 in Maryland, there have been 7,550 recorded deaths, with an additional 182 estimated as “probable deaths.” So far, the global death count is at approximately 2.47 million deaths.

Biden’s order is set to expire at sunset on Feb. 26. The Maryland Flag will also be lowered, as protocol dictates that no flag should fly higher than the American Flag.
