On Saturday, Feb. 19, starting around 5 p.m., the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department held their annual awards banquet at the Calvert County Fair Hall to honor the men and women who serve each year to make their station and the volunteer service what it is today.
The Prince Frederick Volunteer Department made 1,179 calls in 2010 and is proud of its record of never missing a call since 1998.
At the banquet, there were awards given out to many of the PFVFD members. Not all their names are listed herein. At the event, the Chief Vernon D. Horsmon Award was established to honor Vernon D. Horsmon, Sr. for his 28 years of service as Chief of the Prince Frederick VFD.
Chief Horsmon is a member who has exemplified the highest degree of professionalism, training, commitment, and dedication.ย This award is presented by the Chief to an individual who had demonstrated his/her consistency and dependability, who has shown a willingness to improve their levelย of training, show positive attitude, and who is an asset to the department. The Chiefโs Award went to Patrick Hassler.
