
UPDATE 6:00 p.m. —ย The Maryland International Raceway released the following statement on Facebook regarding the crash:
“Today at Maryland International Raceway, Bill Meadows of Midland, Virginia, lost control in his โ05 Grand Am pro mod and hit the wall twice during a shakedown pass at todayโs event. He was airlifted from the race track.ย

Full extent of Billโs injuries are unknown at this time, but we will keep you posted if we learn more. As always with any accident at the track, please keep the racer and family in your prayers.”
UPDATEย 1:55 p.m. — The patient is en route to a local trauma center via helicopter.ย
UPDATE 1:27 p.m. — Fire department personnel have arrived on the scene and the vehicle is not on fire. ย
MECHANICSVILLE, MD — At 1:17 p.m.,ย a race car hit the wall of the track twice before erupting into flames at the Maryland International Raceway.ย A helicopter has been requested for the driver. More information to follow.ย
