I am writing because I am outraged by a recent problem my daughter had at her high school and would like as many people as possible to be aware of the situation. My 16-year-old daughter attends Leonardtown High School, which for the most part has been a very good three years.
She ended her junior year this month and two days before school was to let out, I received a frantic call from her just before the ending of the school day. She was crying and very upset because of an assault on her by one of the 11th grade teachers, Mr. Flood.
He had grabbed her by the arm, shook her and threw her up against a wall, leaving red marks and brusing on her arm; which was all witnessed by two other students. Another teacher heard her yelling and came out to the hall to help. (who by the way, I can not thank enough!)
In short, the cops were called and I filed a report against this teacher and also a complaint with the school. From what I understand now, there has been numerous problems with this particular teacher and several complaints about his screaming at the students and outragous behavior…none of which is acceptable under any circumstances.
There is a certain temperament one should have when working with children and if you don’t have it–get out of the school system! This man obviously needs help and it should be well known what he is capable of.
I will say that the school was extremely helpful, as one would expect under such conditions, the officer was wonderful and as of now charges are filed and in place. I am very pleased to know this man will not be teaching at LHS, for my daughter’s safety and the safety of your own children.
