Leonardtown, MD – It was billed as a โgreat way to start your Motherโs Day Weekend.โ A fast and early start it was, too, as participants in Camp Maria Retreat Centerโs First Annual Honor All Moms 5 kilometer (K) walk/run began the trek at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9. The 5K course started on Camp Maria Road, to Abellโs Wharf Road and back again.
According to the retreat center, the portion of the race in the Abellโs Wharf area gave participants an opportunity to cover an area that was the first home of Camp Maria back in 1937. A view of picturesque Breton Bay was included in the course.
The top female finisher was Rosemary Wild, 13 of Leonardtown. The top male finisher was Cody Zarilla.
All runners and walkers received a Motherโs Day gift.
According to Camp Maria Retreat Center Director Ann Kovlcik, the mission of the facility is โto provide an atmosphere of prayer, hospitality and simplicity in a peaceful, natural environment for retreats and various types of renewal programs.โ
