Ridge Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Eddie Raley reportsย three members were awarded for dedicated service during the Maryland State Firemen’s Associationโ€™s 114th Annual Convention in Ocean City. Also,ย two crews were awarded for parade demonstrations at the convention, which features training seminars, vendor equipment displays, convention meetings and a parade.

Congratulations to Ridge VFD Vice President Bobby Balta for being elected President of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association (MSFA). Balta was also induction into the MSFA Hall of Fame for his years of service.

Balta attaining the highest office in Maryland‘s Volunteer Emergency Service was the result of many hours and miles durning the past year, visiting numerous Fire Departments throughout Maryland.

Also awarded was Safety Officer Phil Cooper, who received the Smith N. Stathem Jr. Memorial Safety Award; and Fire Prevention Chairman Matt Ridgell received first place in Class 1 Fire Prevention for the Department’s fire prevention efforts in 2005.

On June 21, Ridge units marched in the parade in downtown Ocean City with an honor guard and marching unit, along with Command vehicle 4, Engine 42, and Engine 43.

The “hot march” paid off as Ridge was honored with second best appearing fire department marching unit and second best color gaurd in the line of parade. Ridge also received the MSFA Presidents Award for their time and effort. Ridge VFD would like to thank Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association Honor Guard for their assistance and participation.

Ending the week with relaxation, several members participated in a golf tournament held at Eagles Landing Golf Course. A good time was had by all!
