At approximately 9:35 p.m. on Thursday February 22, at the Food Lion in Callaway, a black man between the ages of 20 and 25 years, who had been in the store for several minutes, grabbed an employee and placed a knife to her back, police reported Friday.

According to police, the armed manย forcedย the female employeeย to an area where a safe was located and ordered her to open it. She complied and theย robber fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.

The armed man was wearing his hair in dreadlocks, and was carrying a kitchen knife, The Bay Net learned. He was last seen running accross the street in the direction of A & W, with his hands full of cash.

Police say aย customer gave chase to the suspect but lost him in the area of Hunting Quarter Drive.

A large sum of cash was reportedly recovered in the woods, The Bay Net was told.

The employee suffered a slight laceration from the knife.

According to police, the suspect was wearing what appeared to be a large grey t-shirt with a black โ€œscarfaceโ€ logo on the front and a lighter grey hooded sweatshirt under the t-shirt, dark jeans and dark shoes.
