The anticipated storm in Maryland is expected to produce โ€œmoderateโ€ snow during rush hour, according to the State Highway Administration, which is calling upon drivers to use extra caution during their commutes this evening.

Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will have crews out in force this afternoon and evening as a fast-moving storm is expected to produce moderate snowfall for counties west of the Chesapeake Bay. Salt will be spread and snow plowed as needed during the afternoon and evening. According to SHA, the storm is expected to occur during the evening rush hour, hence the call for extra diligence, planning ahead and a warning to expect some delays.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย

“A good thing to remember when on the roads – ice and snow, take it slow,” said SHA Administrator Neil J. Pedersen. “Several storms have occurred this winter during rush hours and delays are expected this afternoon. SHA crews will plow and salt as needed, but if there are extensive delays this afternoon, our trucks may be stuck in the same traffic as everyone else. We ask motorists to continue to use caution.”ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย

Remember: bridges, ramps and overpasses are generally three to five degrees colder than road surfaces and will freeze first! The SHA asks motorists to proceed with caution this evening, expect the unexpected and drive well below the posted speed limit on wet or icy roads.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
