Leonardtown, MD — It seems like the sights and sounds of Christmas begin earlier and earlier every year – what with Black Friday sales well before Black Friday and radio stations launching all-Christmas music. But the holiday season really isn’t officially under way until Santa arrives.

Every Black Friday evening the town of Leonardtown hosts Christmas on the Square with the capstone the arrival of Santa on a Leonardtown VFD fire truck.
This year thousands crammed onto the town square for music, entertainment, sleigh rides, a live Nativity, and anticipation for Santa’s arrival at 7 p.m. Santa then helped light the Christmas tree that will be a beacon on the square for the holiday season.

The event that often is plagued with cold weather was blessed this year with relatively mild temperatures, helping to swell the crowd.
