Prince Frederick, MD โ€“ Calvert County Board of Education (BOE) Member Joseph R. Chenelly will be stepping down soon, sources within the school system have confirmed. On Wednesday, Oct. 15, Chenelly announced on a Calvert County-based news blog that he and his family have moved out-of-state for personal reasons.

The Bay Net had made several attempts during the past two weeks to contact Chenelly about his residential status but none of the messages were returned. Chenelly has missed the BOEโ€™s last three monthly meetings. According to Superintendent of Schools Dr. Daniel Curry, Chenelly did attend the school boardโ€™s September work session.

Chenelly, who was elected to the BOE in November 2012 as the First Election District representative, ran for county commissioner from that district during the June 2014 Republican Primary, finishing third in a three-man race. In 2013 the Calvert County Republican Party selected Chenelly as its Man of the Year.

โ€œItโ€™s going to be up to him,โ€ said BOE President Dr. Eugene Karol when asked when and if Chenelly would be asked to resign.

Karol said under county law the Calvert Board of County Commissioners would select an individual to fill the unexpired term.
