ย Based on the capacity of and enrollment at the three high schools, Dr. Michael Martirano, Superintendent of Schools, appointed a redistricting committee as outlined in policy JCAA to review options and provide a recommendation on relieving the overcrowding at Leonardtown High School by utilizing the available capacity at Chopticon High School. ย 


The committee met October through December 2010. ย The committee was comprised of 33 percent staff members and 67 percent community members. ย Other community members who were not on the committee attended the meetings and provided input during the process. ย The committee reached consensus on the proposed boundary alignment plan on December 2, 2010. ย The plan was then presented to the superintendent of schools on December 6, 2010. ย Next steps include:

โ€ข The recommendation for Plan 1 with grandfathering for current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students, who will be 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students during the 2011-2012 school year, with hub transportation. ย Students who are in 8th grade this year and fall under this redistricting proposal will attend Chopticon High School in the 2011-2012 school year. ย ย 
โ€ข The Information Session regarding the facility, activities, and education opportunities at Chopticon High School has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 6, 2010, 5:30-7:00 p.m. for all students and families that will be affected if the BOE approves Plan 1. ย The Open House will be held at the school which is located at 25390 Colton Point Road, Morganza, MD 20660. ย 
โ€ข The redistricting plans will be presented as an information item to the Board of Education of St. Maryโ€™s County (BOE) on Wednesday, January 12, 2011.
โ€ข The BOE will hold a Public Hearing on Thursday, January 20, 2011, beginning at 6:00 p.m., in the Board of Education meeting room located at 23160 Moakley Street, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
โ€ข The BOE will take action on the redistricting recommendation on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, during their regularly scheduled meeting.
โ€ข If the BOE approves redistricting, letters will be mailed to affected families in April 2011. ย
