DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. — During the holiday season, Homestead Gardens becomes more than a store. These garden centers transform three locations into holiday wonderlands with miniature trains chugging through detailed, tiny villages.
For November and December, Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville, Severna Park, and Smyrna, Delaware, add train displays to their stores to wow customers and create a one-of-a-kind holiday offering that walks you down memory lane, a Christmas of a bygone era you didn’t know you missed.
Luckily for Calvert County residents, the Davidsonville display is less than a 30-minute drive from the northern parts of the county. From Owings, it’s only 23 minutes.
So pack up the family and head over to see this magical, magnificent setup while it lasts. The Davidsonville trains are running through Dec. 31, and it’s a great way to spend some time when school is out, shop for last-minute gifts, or keep the Christmas spirit alive just a little longer.
You can view the train schedules here and learn more about the longtime conductor, Reggie. Truly, we couldn’t stop taking pictures. Every inch of the display was a miniature delight, and there was so much to see. Check it out.
The Train Display
We’ve already gushed about this, but the Christmas train display was a sight to see. It’s all the way in the back of the Davidsonville store. Once you go in the front, you’ll have to navigate your way through the garden center (and all the Christmas shopping) to the greenhouses. The trains are in the second greenhouse. You’ll be able to spot the large banner on the back wall when you get to the greenhouse.

Christmas Decor
Homestead Gardens is packed wall to wall with Christmas decor for the holidays. From pre-decorated trees to life-size Santas, the store has it all. There are ornaments in every theme, including for dogs, as well as Christmas and Hanukkah dishes and throw pillows.

Live And Fresh Seasonal Plants
You can find live trees as well as fresh wreaths, bushels, and poinsettias outside. These beautiful fresh plants add color and warmth both inside and outside of a home, and there were tons of options to choose from in all sizes — and, even better, they were on sale.

Santa’s Workshop
Free Santa photos were available at Homestead Gardens through Dec. 21 by appointment. While Santa visits are over this year, the store’s immersive Santa’s Workshop setup was definitely a sight to see and should make the list for anyone looking for a fun Santa experience next year.
