Honorary Chair of the United Way of St. Maryโs County Campaign 2008, Captain Glen Ives USN (ret.), former commanding officer of NAS Patuxent River, and the United Way of St. Maryโs County Board of Directors announce the Campaign 2008 Kick-off Breakfast at the J. T. Daugherty Conference Center at 7 a.m., Friday, Sept. 5.ย where Senator Ben Cardin will address those assembled for this annual event.ย
In addition to Captain Ives speaking about the spirit of giving in our community, Senator Cardin, whoโs family has been dedicated to community service for generations, will draw upon his own experience and that of his family in commending those in attendance for the services the United Ways and their member agencies provide throughout the State of Maryland and especially in St. Maryโs County. ย

Captain Ives will enthusiastically host the morningโs festivities where nominees from the United Way of St. Maryโs Countyโs agencies will by recognized for their outstanding volunteer services to the community.ย In addition, one time Merit grants will be awarded to 7ย agencies.ย United Way of St. Maryโs County will also recognize local businesses for their participation in Campaign 2007 at this event.
In addition to Captain Ives and Senator Cardin, attending the Annual Breakfast and helping to start Campaign 2008 are local business and community leaders, government officials, Member Agency Council members, and local volunteers sand supportive citizens of our community. ย

United Way of St. Maryโs County is a local, non-profit organization that dedicates its support to local charities.ย The 42 United Way member agencies provide health care services, food, housing, emergency aid, youth programs, education and job training to St. Maryโs County residents.ย Unless otherwise directed, money that is raised in St. Maryโs County stays in St. Maryโs to assist in providing needed services to our community neighbors.
