Maryland State police aviation command Trooper

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Authorities are investigating a serious crash involving a dump truck that shut down a portion of Point Lookout Road in St. Mary’s County on Monday afternoon.

The collision was reported around 12:18 p.m. Jan. 12, 2026, in the area of Point Lookout Road near St. Andrews Church Road. Crews arrived to find a dump truck that rear-ended a passenger vehicle with multiple occupants injured. Due to the severity of the incident, a medical helicopter was requested to assist with one patient transport.

One patient was airlifted by Maryland State Police Trooper 7 to UM Capital Region Medical Center. Another patient was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.

Southbound lanes of Point Lookout Road were closed as first responders worked at the scene, causing traffic disruptions in the area. Motorists were urged to use caution and expect delays while crews conducted emergency operations and the investigation continued.
