Charlotte Hall, MD – A shed on a property located around the Charles County – St. Mary’s County line was totally destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon, Dec. 10, state authorities reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze on Vom Hainberg Place in Charlotte Hall was discovered by the property owner. Fifty volunteer firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm fire, bringing the flames under control in 20 minutes. No injuries were reported.
“The fire was determined to be accidental, as a result of an electrical failure within an energized extension cord, igniting combustible materials inside the shed,” a deputy fire marshal stated in the investigation report. “The shed and its contents were completely destroyed. A three-car detached garage and a 24-foot box truck adjacent to the shed also sustained damage due to the fire.”
Total damage from the fire is estimated to be $55,000.
