Sheriff involved fatality

ย Sheriff’s deputy strikes pedestrian leads to death

UPDATE – Monday, Oct. 31 4 p.m.

Lexington Park, MD – The victim has been identified as Elder Amiclar Lucedro Moran, age 30, of Lexington Park and the deputy was identified as Sgt. Keith Moritz, a thirteen year veteran of the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office. The names of both the deputy and victim were unannounced pending notification to next of kin and as part of the preliminary investigation.

At this time, the investigation continues and additional information will be released upon completion of the investigation and a report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The men and women of the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office thank the community for their assistance in the investigation.


UPDATE โ€“ 12:45 p.m.

Lexington Park, MD – On Sunday, Oct. 30, approximately 2:12 a.m.. a St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office deputy was traveling southbound on Chancellors Run Road in the area of Pegg Road when a pedestrian entered the roadway.

The pedestrian was struck by the deputyโ€™s vehicle and succumbed to injuries sustained. The Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and continued the investigation.

Alcohol and speed do not appear to be contributing factors and due to the nature of the preliminary investigation, the names of the officer and pedestrian are being withheld.

The Sheriffโ€™s office is in need of community assistance. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Cpl. Brian Connelly at (240) 309-7982.ย

Lexington Park, MD โ€“ Sometime around 2 a.m. a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle in the area of Pegg Road and Chancellors Run Road, police reported. A reconstruction/investigation is underway and the road will be closed for an undetermined period.
