Update 2:44 p.m.

On September 23, 2015, at 7:36 a.m., St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a reported motor vehicle collision with injuries on Pin Cushion Road in Leonardtown, MD.  Upon arrival, deputies found a Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck left the roadway and struck a tree.  The operator was suffering from a leg injury and was placed on the tailgate of her vehicle to elevate her leg while waiting for emergency medical personnel to arrive.  Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron arrived on the scene to assist deputies and was standing to the rear of the truck speaking to the injured operator. A fire truck operated by Kenneth Scully, age 61, of Company 1 Leonardtown, arrived on the scene. Sheriff Cameron was struck by the fire truck and was pinned between the fire truck and tailgate of the wrecked vehicle.  As the firetruck continued to move forward, Sheriff Cameron was thrown to the ground. Sheriff Cameron was transported from the scene by ambulance to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was released.

The facts of the case were reviewed with the Assistant State’s Attorney, Laura Caspar. Based on the facts, the operator of the fire truck has been charged via citations for Negligent Driving, Failure to Control Speed to Avoid a Collision, and Driver Failure to Exercise Due Care to Avoid Pedestrian Collision.


Update 12:15 p.m.

Sheriff Cameron has been released from the hospital.


Update 11:31 p.m.

Update according to Assistant Sheriff, Major John Horne on the condition of Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron – The Sheriff does not have any broken bones. He does have abrasions and is very sore. He is expected to be released today. The Sheriff is very appreciative of the thoughts and concern he received from the community.


Preliminary Update from Accident Reconstruction Team 10:34 a.m.

On September 23, 2015, Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron was on the scene of a personal injury accident assisting patrol deputies with the investigation.  A firetruck responded to the scene and was maneuvering into position when it struck Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron. The Sheriff was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  This case remains under investigation by Corporal Brian Connelly of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team for further review with the States Attorney’s Office.  Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron would like to thank the community for their thoughts and well-wishes for a speedy recovery.


Update Sept. 23, 10:20 a.m.

Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron is in stable condition at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD.  Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron is undergoing x-rays and other tests. More details on his condition will be provided as they become available.


Update Sept. 23, 9:23 a.m.

There is no new information to provide on Sheriff Cameron’s current condition.


At approximately 8:06 a.m. this morning, Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron while assisting on the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Pin Cushion Road. He was providing care to the operator of a vehicle. A firetruck approached the scene and struck Sheriff Cameron. The female operator of the vehicle has been flown to Prince George’s County Shock Trauma.

As a result of the collision, Sheriff Cameron was injured and transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
