PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Two men were arrested following an undercover narcotics investigation in Calvert County that involved a controlled purchase of cocaine, according to court documents.
Desmond Curtis Freeland, 36, of Chesapeake Beach, and James Jason Lewis, 33, of Lothian, were both charged in connection with the March 24, 2026 investigation conducted by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit.
According to investigators, detectives utilized a confidential informant to arrange a controlled purchase of cocaine in the Prince Frederick area. The informant was provided with pre-recorded currency and met with the suspects at the Fox Run Shopping Center.
During the transaction, authorities allege Freeland facilitated the exchange, acting as a middleman while cocaine was provided to the informant in exchange for cash.
Following the controlled buy, deputies maintained surveillance and later conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle connected to the suspects near Solomons Island Road. Freeland and Lewis were both inside the vehicle at the time and were taken into custody along with another occupant.
During the investigation, deputies recovered additional suspected cocaine inside the vehicle, along with paraphernalia consistent with drug use and distribution. Authorities also located the pre-recorded buy money used in the controlled purchase, further linking the suspects to the transaction.
Investigators determined the quantity of narcotics, along with the circumstances of the sale, were consistent with distribution.
Freeland and Lewis were each charged with multiple offenses, including distribution of a narcotic, possession with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and related conspiracy charges.
Court records show Freeland was ordered held without bond following multiple bail reviews before Judge Michelle R. Saunders in Calvert District Court.
Lewis was initially held without bond before appearing before Judge Saunders on March 26, 2026, where he was granted a $10,000 bond. Court records indicate he later posted a $1,000 cash bond and was released.
A hearing is set for April 24, 2026 in Calvert District Court.
