On Sunday, Nov. 29 the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department in Lexington Park hosted the Silent Angel Memorial tree lighting ceremony. The annual ceremony is dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives to violent crime.

The somber gathering began at 6 p.m. Speakers at the event were Sheriff Timothy J. Cameron, Stateโ€™s Attorney, Richard Fritz and victimsโ€™ advocate, Mary Atlas-Terry. There was also a video presentation that included a statement from John Walsh, whose child was murdered. Walshโ€™s statement was obtained with the help of Rep. Steny Hoyer.

During the lighting ceremony, angel ornaments that were labeled with the name, birthday and date they become victims of violent death were hung on the tree as each of the names was read aloud.

At the end of the ceremony, the tree was moved to the Sheriffโ€™s Office Lobby on Leonardtown where it may be viewed through the end of the year. More information may be obtained by emailing silentangelmemorial@gmail.com.
