SMADC Summer Internship Program Now Accepting Applications For Motivated College Students

HUGHESVILLE, Md. – The Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC), a division of the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, is excited to announce its Summer Internship Program, designed for passionate college students pursuing degrees in agriculture, agricultural business, environmental science, or related fields.

This immersive, 12-week paid internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in agricultural service operations while contributing to a thriving regional food system. Interns will engage in program development, budget management, industry networking, and resource utilization, all while supporting SMADC’s mission to assist farmers, producers, and consumers in Southern Maryland.

Key Program Goals:

Provide practical experience in agricultural service agency operations.

Enhance understanding of regional food systems.

Develop skills in program planning, budgeting, and resource management.

Facilitate networking with industry professionals and local farmers.

Promote awareness of sustainable agricultural practices.

Internship Details:

Duration: 12 weeks, starting May 21, 2025, and ending August 21, 2025.

Compensation: $20/hour, full-time, not to exceed 40 hours per week.

Location: SMADC offices, 15045 Burnt Store Road, Hughesville, MD.

Application Timeline:

Open: April 9 – April 23, 2025

Interviews: April 28-29, 2025 (virtually via TEAMS)

Notification of Acceptance: May 1, 2025

Interns will undergo an extensive orientation, engage in program exposure, learn about budgeting, participate in industry networking, and develop a project related to SMADC’s initiatives. Each intern will receive mentorship from SMADC staff and will have opportunities for professional development through workshops and networking events.

Eligibility Requirements:

Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program.

Strong interest in sustainable agriculture and regional food systems.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
