LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Superintendent of Schools, Dr. J. Scott Smith, announces the administrative appointments made by the Board of Education at its meeting of June 4, 2025.
The Board appointed Mr. David Chilson as Principal at Esperanza Middle School. Mr. Chilson holds a Master’s Degree from Towson University and a Bachelor’s Degree from the State University of New York at Brockport. Mr. Chilson currently serves as an Assistant Principal at George Washington Carver Elementary School.
Ms. Jennifer Surber has been appointed as Charter Director at Chesapeake Public Charter School. Ms. Surber holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor’s Degree from Old Dominion University. Ms. Surber currently serves as Academic Dean at the Chesapeake Public Charter School.
The Board of Education was informed of the following Administrative Transfer:
Ms. Honora Batelka will transfer from Principal at Ridge Elementary School to CCEIS Coordinator in the Department of Special Education.
These appointments and transfer will become effective July 1, 2025.
