On Dec.14,ย detectives from the St. Mary’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations began an investigation into the electronic mail spoofing of the Superintendent of the St. Mary’s County Public Schools.ย Spoofing is a method of electronically copying a personโs email identifier and sending emails as if you were that person.
The investigation revealed that Brian L. Still, 45ย of Issue, Md., had spoofed the Superintendentโs electronic mail account and sent electronic mail to a school employee and a school board memberย with the intent to embarrass, harass and annoy the employee, school board member,ย and the superintendent.ย The defendant then spoofed another public school employee’s email address and sent emails to acquaintances of that employee.

On Dec. 22, St. Mary’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations Detectives, with the assistance of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a search warrant on the residence of Mr. Still.ย Evidence was uncovered at that time that implicated Still in the crimes.ย He was charged on Jan. 27, by being served a criminal summons for three counts of electronic mail harassment.
