Senior Brett OโNeill from St. Maryโs Ryken High School (SMR) has been chosen to receive the St. Timothy Award by the Archdiocese of Washington (ADW).ย The St. Timonthy Award is given to recognize high school students for their outstanding contribution to their parish and campus youth ministry. This year, 14 students will receive the award. Brett is a member of Sacred Heart Church in LaPlata.

This fall, Brett will be pursuing a degree in criminal justice in a four-year combined program at the College of Southern Maryland and the University of Maryland.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl presented Brett with his award on May 11 at the 66th Annual Office of Youth Ministry/Catholic Youth Organization Board of Directorโs Awards Banquet in Greenbelt, Md.

At SMR, Brett was chosen to be one of the XBSS (Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School) stewards, who work with the schoolโs Campus Ministry office to carry out service projects in the school and the local community.

St. Mary’s Ryken is a college preparatory high school sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers and works to inspires lives of learning, faith and service in each student. Each year, 99% of graduates go on to college and the Class of 2010 earned almost $9 million in scholarships. The rigorous and challenging course curriculum, grounded in morals and values, develops time management skills and prepares students for the demands of college course work. Students come from many different counties across the region including Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, King George, Prince Georgeโs and St. Maryโs counties.
