Solomons, MD – Solomons Island’s iconic Tiki Bar, which has been shuttered for 18 months, will be reopening sometime in the late spring, sources close to the story have told TheBayNet.com. Sources have reported a transaction involving a pub chain known as Union Jack’s was finalized Friday morning, April 5. While the transaction is not an outright sale of the business to a new owner, the pact will give Union Jack’s control over the bar for a period of three years. One source has also confirmed that Union Jack’s will have an option to eventually purchase the property. The bar’s liquor license is expected to remain the hands of the estate of the late owner, Terry Clarke. Clark’s sudden death in the fall of 2017 prompted the bar’s closure. The subsequent effort to sell the property was handled by Annapolis-based commercial real estate agent Dennis Murphy.
The Tiki Bar is not expected to reopen for its traditional late April date this year. However one source has told TheBayNet.com that the bar could be open in time for Memorial Day.
Efforts to reach a Union Jack’s principal regarding the transaction have not been successful as this story was being filed. A formal announcement about the deal is expected shortly.
