Southern Maryland Democrats will be gathering this weekend in Chesapeake Beach for their third bi-annual summit. The event, which starts Friday evening with a reception, includes an all-day event Saturday in which many of the stateโ€™s elected officials will attend. It will be held at Chesapeake Beach Resort & Spa.

U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski will be the Keynote Speaker at Saturdayโ€™s luncheon. Also expected to attend are Rep. Steny Hoyer, Senate President Mike Miller, gubernatorial candidates Attorney General Doug Gansler and Del Heather Mizeur, lieutenant governor candidate Ken Ulman (on Anthony Brownโ€™s ticket) and Comptroller Peter Franchot.

President of the Voter Empowerment Project Yvette Lewis will be the Saturday morning opening speaker. There also will be morning sessions on building Young Democrats, a look at Maryland Electorate and the proposed minimum wage increase.

Chesapeake Beach Mayor Bruce Wahl will give welcoming remarks before the lunch.

An afternoon session will be held entitled: โ€œ2014: A New Landscape for Campaign Ads.โ€

The event is sponsored by the central committees of the three Southern Maryland counties and the Southern Maryland Young Democrats.
