SOUTHERN MARYLAND — The 2024 Southern Maryland Holly Jolly Light Trail, hosted by The Southside Group of Home Towne Real Estate, is lighting up the holiday season with its annual community contest showcasing dazzling holiday displays. This year’s event promises to be the largest yet, boasting 91 displays across the region as of this week, with registration still open until Dec. 8.
The Holly Jolly Light Trail invites residents of Southern Maryland to compete for the title of “Best” Holiday or Christmas Decoration Display. The contest fosters community spirit and encourages creativity while transforming neighborhoods into festive wonderlands.
“This year’s Holly Jolly Light Trail is going to be bigger and brighter with the Battle of the Counties! Which county will shine the brightest?” organizers teased in a promotional announcement. Participants will receive a custom trail sign to display in their yards, showcasing their creativity and spreading cheer throughout the community.

One of the highlights of the Southern Maryland Holly Jolly Light Trail is the convenience of its interactive map. The map allows participants and visitors to easily locate and plan their routes to view the stunning holiday displays across the region. Whether you’re visiting a few nearby homes or embarking on a festive road trip to see them all, the map ensures a seamless experience. This feature makes it simple to enjoy the holiday cheer at your own pace, all while discovering new neighborhoods and appreciating the community’s creativity.
Supporting Local Causes
The event is also partnering with the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) to support The Fridge, a food assistance program in La Plata, underscoring the initiative’s commitment to giving back to the community.
