Southern Maryland Women’s League Launches Hygiene Pack Drive For Girls In Need

WALDORF, Md. — The Southern Maryland Women’s League is partnering with Toiletry and Company, Inc. to create 1,000 hygiene packs for girls and women in need across Charles County.

The initiative, called “My First Period Club,” will support underserved schools and local organizations that assist unhoused women. Organizers say the effort is designed to provide dignity, confidence and basic hygiene supplies for those who may not have consistent access to menstrual products at school or at home.

Access to menstrual products is often an overlooked need, yet it can directly affect school attendance, participation and overall well-being. According to organizers, many families are unaware that SNAP and similar public assistance programs do not cover menstrual products, creating a gap that community donations help fill.

Each hygiene pack will include:

  • Sanitary napkins
  • Sanitary wipes
  • A discreet zipper pouch for easy transport in a backpack or to the restroom

The zipper pouch is intended to help students carry supplies discreetly, reducing embarrassment and making it easier to manage hygiene needs throughout the school day.

An Amazon wish list has been created to make donating simple and convenient. Items purchased through the list ship directly to organizers, who will assemble and distribute the packs in March to partnering schools and community groups.

The group’s goal is to assemble 1,000 hygiene packs, and organizers say community support will play a key role in reaching that target. Even small donations can help complete multiple kits.

Community members can donate through the Amazon wish list at: amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1YIMF1OK07XKP?

Organizers say every contribution helps support hygiene, health and confidence for girls and women throughout Southern Maryland, strengthening the community one pack at a time.
