NEW ORLEANS — Cornhole and football collided at the 2025 ACL Cornhole Championship, held during the Super Bowl LIX Experience on Friday, Feb. 7. Among the standout competitors was Southern Maryland’s own Elizabeth Tennyson, a professional cornhole player from Mechanicsville, who teamed up with NFL quarterback Sam Darnold in a battle for charity and bragging rights.

The tournament, live-streamed on ESPN+, paired top American Cornhole League (ACL) professionals with NFL stars, all competing for a $10,000 prize for the charity of their choice.

Star-Studded Lineup

The teams brought both skill and entertainment to the competition, featuring a stacked lineup that included:

  • Ryan Fitzpatrick and Ryan Smith
  • Sam Darnold and Elizabeth Tennyson
  • Kyren Williams and Cheyenne Bubenheim
  • Kobie Turner and Trevor Kuhfuss
  • Steve Smith Sr. and Ethan Walker
  • Andre Reed and Adam Hissner
  • Alex Mattison and Tanner Halbert
  • Dion Dawkins and Alex Rawls

From precision tosses to playful trash talk, the event proved that cornhole isn’t just a backyard pastime—it’s a serious sport.

A Career-Defining Moment

For Tennyson, competing alongside an NFL quarterback in front of a roaring Super Bowl crowd was an unforgettable experience.

Since turning pro in 2022, she has regularly competed against the nation’s top cornhole players, proudly representing Southern Maryland in a sport that continues to grow in popularity.

“The opportunity the ACL let me be a part of at the Super Bowl Experience was one to never forget,” Tennyson said. “Not only did I get to travel and do something I love with a great group of people (the other ACL pros), but I got to meet and play with Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold. The energy he and the other NFL players brought to the boards made it an even better experience.”

Tennyson added that the event was more than just about competition.

“The whole experience wasn’t just show up and play,” she said. “We actually got to meet and talk to them. It was like they were our biggest fans in the Cornhole Championship.”

Support From Sponsors

Tennyson also credited her success to the support of her sponsors, which include BG Cornhole, Action Lounge, Tennyson Wealth Management Group, Beltway Baggers, and Girls Throw Too.

“None of this would be possible without my amazing sponsors,” she said. “I can’t wait to see what the future holds for myself and the ACL, as this was a huge event to build the cornhole community.”

As cornhole continues to rise in popularity, events like this are bringing new energy to the sport—and Southern Maryland’s own Elizabeth Tennyson is proving that cornhole is more than just a casual game—it’s a serious, competitive sport.
