Some of you may remember an article posted here on The Bay Net about the local band Hydra FX and the shooting of their entry video at Neptune’s for a shot on the NBC music reality show “Star Tomorrow.” Well, Holy Hydra FX Batman, they made it! Yes, Hydra FX was selected out of thousands of entries nationwide for this show. The band went to New York two weeks ago and performed an acoustic set for the producer – and he loved it! So now the band is set for a trip to LA on July 26th. The show will feature both solo artists and bands. It will air some segments online as well implement the voting system online.
Now here is the sticky part of this great story. For this round of the competition, the band has to pay their way to LA and also cover their own hotel expenses, so they are asking their fans and the Southern Maryland community at large for any help in this endeavor. They will, in return, give out shirts, CD’s and other goodies.
Now, back to what’s going on with the show. Star Tomorrow will air on NBC July 31st. It will feature interviews and footage from the New York sessions. When we asked the guys from Hydra FX what it was like knowing that they were going to LA for a shot at stardom, Joe Barrick, drummer for the band, said, “We didn’t sleep the night we found out we were going to LA and then every night since, we’ve been like kids on Christmas Eve. None of us have been to the West Coast before. I’d never been to New York before this past trip, so that was cool.”
“It’s the ultimate dream to win this and go on tour. Anything could happen with this. Someone could see us and we could get a record deal out of this,” Barrick told The Bay Net
Asked how they came to be poised for a national broadcast, and possible stardom, the band said, “We were lucky. Someone heard our tape and really liked it.”
“They called us up on Greg’s birthday and we were like, holy…..we’re going to New York!” added Barrick.
The show will be recorded in LA July 27-29. Hydra FX will have to perform two cover songs and two originals. The band said that the footage from their LA visit as well as the voting will appear online, so watch the show Star Tomorrow on July 31st and be sure to vote HydraFx into the next round. The guys return on July 30th and will be at Badfish Dock Bar and Grill at Solomon’s Monday night July 31st for the airing of the show and a live performance. Hydra FX has scheduled their next performance in Southern Maryland for tomorrow evening, Saturday July 22, at the Green Door in St. Mary’s County. The evening will be a fundraiser for their LA trip and they invite The Bay Net readers to join them, help them on their way, and enjoy a party.
