Charles County, Md –ย Nicholas Gallegos, an eighth grader at John Hanson Middle School, along with the school, was awarded $500 from Educational Systems Federal Credit Union for winning the Charles County Spelling Bee.

Gallegos won the spelling bee in the seventh round by correctly spelling the word โ€œazimuth.โ€ As one of the sponsors of the spelling bee, Educational Systems FCU presented Hanson with a $500 donation. The award funds are to help defray the cost of registering for the Scripps National Spelling Bee and to cover any related expenses, according to a credit union news release.

โ€œOur core purpose is serving the education community,โ€ said Chris Conway, president/CEO of Educational Systems FCU, in the release. โ€œWe are proud to support education in Charles County by sponsoring the spelling bee, and we congratulate John Hanson Middle School and Nicholas on this achievement.โ€

โ€œWe are so proud of Nicholas,” said Susan McCormick, principal at Hanson. โ€œWe thank Educational Systems FCU for the donation, but also Nicholas for winning the spelling bee.โ€
