Charles County, Md –ย Nicholas Gallegos, an eighth grader at John Hanson Middle School, along with the school, was awarded $500 from Educational Systems Federal Credit Union for winning the Charles County Spelling Bee.
Gallegos won the spelling bee in the seventh round by correctly spelling the word โazimuth.โ As one of the sponsors of the spelling bee, Educational Systems FCU presented Hanson with a $500 donation. The award funds are to help defray the cost of registering for the Scripps National Spelling Bee and to cover any related expenses, according to a credit union news release.
โOur core purpose is serving the education community,โ said Chris Conway, president/CEO of Educational Systems FCU, in the release. โWe are proud to support education in Charles County by sponsoring the spelling bee, and we congratulate John Hanson Middle School and Nicholas on this achievement.โ
โWe are so proud of Nicholas,” said Susan McCormick, principal at Hanson. โWe thank Educational Systems FCU for the donation, but also Nicholas for winning the spelling bee.โ
