Hundreds come out to fight for babies, including and raise more than $94,000 to help babies be born healthy

It was the best feel-good moment of the week in southern Maryland when approximately 350 residents joined together in support of the smallest citizens of southern Maryland babies by participating in March for Babies to benefit the March of Dimes. Leonardtown was packed with strollers, families and teams to celebrate raising more than $94,000 to help babies be born healthy.

โ€˜Weโ€™ve seen today how important it is to help our babies,โ€ said 2011 March for Babies Chair Joan Gelrud. โ€œThis has been an incredible event, and Iโ€™m so proud to be from a community where people can come together for such a great cause. ย Helping our babies should be a top priority, and we should be excited about what weโ€™ve accomplished here today.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  โ€œIt was a memorable and rewarding day for all of us,โ€ said Corinne Sambrook, who along with Brayden & Savannah served as the 2011 southern Maryland Ambassador Family. โ€œWhen Brayden and Savannah ย were born premature, we decided to do everything we could to make sure that other families donโ€™t go through what we did, and we were honored to be able to support the March of Dimes today in return for all the support theyโ€™ve given us.โ€

Money raised from the event funds research, awareness, education and local community grants for programs such as St. Maryโ€™s County Health Departmentโ€™s recently completed grant for $10,00
