On Wednesday, September 24, 2014, a single report of a nonspecific verbal threat was received at Leonardtown High School (LHS) As a result, the school was immediately placed on lockdown. A coordinated response was initiated immediately with school and law enforcement officials.
The school’s administration followed the emergency response protocols outlined in the St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) School Crisis and Emergency Response Plan and continually worked with law enforcement authorities to complete the investigation.
The building was cleared for use at approximately 2:25 p.m. and the school prepared for a normal dismissal at that time. All after school and evening activities at LHS were cancelled.
