On December 6, 2024, I was made aware that two Anne Arundel County
police officers, Corporal K. Schnell and Corporal E. Vasquez, were indicted
and issued criminal summonses for Misconduct in Office as the result of an
investigation conducted by the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.

The investigation was related to a fatal crash that occurred on December 7,
2023, in Pasadena, Maryland.

I and the Anne Arundel County Police Departmentโ€™s executive command staff
reviewed all of the evidence that was available to us.

At this time, based on our review, we are not aware of any conduct
demonstrated by our officers that rises to the level of a violation of criminal
law.

We respect the judicial process, however, it is important to remind our community that an indictment is merely an accusation and not a finding of
guilt, and our officers are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Any media inquiries will be directed to the Independent Investigations
Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.โ€

  1. Thank you Chief for supporting your officers. I’m sure the officers of the AAPD gained new respect for you and the executive staff. Keep our officers safe.

  2. it would be nice if the Sheriff of Letcher County County Kentucky was presumed innocent until found\ proven guilty. I do wonder about that since he resigned. I understand needing to focus on his case, but wasn’t a leave of absence a possibility until the court case was finished? If the Sheriff isn’t innocent until proven guilty, is anyone? <(Mickey Shawn Stines )

  3. There needs to be a top-to-bottom investigation into the AA CO PD. There are untrained, and obviously seriously flawed people working there. They abuse their power through various means. Chief Awad needs to resign. Shame on all of you.
