WALDORF, Md. – On July 9 at 3:20 a.m., officers responded to the 2100 block of Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of several juveniles walking through an apartment complex parking lot, possibly breaking into cars.
When the first officer arrived, he observed the juveniles enter a Hyundai Elantra and begin driving away. Officers initiated a traffic stop, but the driver fled. The vehicle stopped in the 2900 block of Crain Highway, where four occupants jumped out of the car.
Officers apprehended three of the occupants, and the fourth fled on foot. Officers reached out to the registered owner of the vehicle and determined the car had just been stolen.
Two of the juveniles, ages 13 and 14, were charged on a juvenile offense report –in accordance with MD law – and released to their parents. The 12-year-old cannot be charged in this case, in accordance with MD law, due to age.
Officers are working to identify the fourth suspect. M/CPL Saunders is investigating.

Put them and their parents in jail.

Why is this listed under “Crime & Courts”? It should be under “Education”, because Maryland is ‘teaching’ them that crime DOES pay.
You are SO right…educating hoodlums on how to commit crimes and get off without accountability or punishment. A sad state of the legal system. Very disappointing.
Never gonna stop
you are correct my friend
Maybe things have changed, since my children were that age. Any child under 16, when the sun goes down, they go down, dinner, bath and bed. 16-18 have to know where you are at and with who? Always told my kids, if police pick up for anything, my reply will be lock them up
12 year old can’t be charged due to age? That’s BS. Fine, charge the parents since they’re the fools who brought a child into this world that they clearly can’t be bothered to raise to be a beneficially productive member of society. And for anyone who says “it takes a village” to raise a child, they need to stop misusing that statement. Of course it takes a “village”. But the primary elements are the parents. The village can only do so much to make up for the willful failings of two people who probably shouldn’t be parents. Every person has the right to build a family, but with the exercising of that right comes the responsibility of pulling your own freaking weight, raising your kids, and supporting that family. If someone doesn’t have the mental, emotional or moral bandwidth to raise a child then they shouldn’t be having them. High time we stop telling schools and teachers that they need to do the jobs that parents are failing or refusing to do.
Lock them up as well as their parents. I don’t care what their age is. By the age of 5 a child knows right from wrong.
